The Use of Social Media in Higher Education for Marketing and

Hi guys. This resource originates from the US but it might be a handy guide to share with colleagues who need convincing about social media applications for HE. I'm also developing a social media monitoring service for universities at the moment with a Canadian company who have developed the platform. Email me if you're interested in hearing more about my plans. I'm not going in for the hard-sell at the moment as I want to ease this service in gently, which includes reduced fees for early adopters.

Do the web editors get a prize for being the first group on HE Comms Tracy??

Aw, I think it's no great shock that the web editors would be first. Your prize is having the satisfaction of being the first and now having a nice space in which you can all exchange ideas.

Wonder who will be next though. I have lots of ideas but don't want to set them all up myself - would negate the whole 'community' ideal of the site if they are all set up by me :-)

Hi all, my own web team while busy with oline clearing web chat today, are really miffed with THES study on HEIs websites. I suspect the study has weak methodological foundations, and I am not surprised at commercial agencies being asked for comment, especially those pushing for social media 'voice' to be heard over and above 'corporate marketing speak on web content'. Just wanted to know if the web professionals had a view?

Have you seen the recent xkcd cartoon at and follow up articles such as and

It's open season on HE websites at the moment, and this may be part of the context.

Hi All,
Topically, we're just in the process of a main site re-design. I'm trying to get together stats on how an increase in fundraising real estate on homepage/inclusion in the main navigation translates in to fundraising income. (Potentially more generic marketing/income generation stats might be helpful) Can anyone recommend any resources which might help me do this? Thanks.

Digital Marketing team needed!

The University of Wolverhampton is a place of knowledge, innovation and enterprise. These principles underpin our strategies in learning and teaching, in research, and help us to engage with the business world.

We are looking for three exceptional individuals to join our busy central marketing team and provide drive and ambition for increasing our digital activity. At this challenging time in higher education, we’re looking to maintain our excellent online reputation, whilst taking forward and capitalising on our established social media presence.
